In the heart of the Alps, Austria pairs imperial cities and coffee-house culture with some of Europe's finest mountain scenery — glacier roads, lakeside villages and world-class trails. Here is what to expect on the ground.
Austria has four distinct seasons. Summers in the lowlands and cities are warm, often around 20–30°C, while the Alps stay cooler. Winters are cold with reliable snow in the mountains — prime ski season.

From imperial Vienna to glacier peaks and lakeside villages, these are the landscapes our Austria expedition is built around.

The imperial capital of grand palaces, the Ringstrasse and a storied coffee-house culture, set on the Danube.

A baroque city of domes and squares, birthplace of Mozart, watched over by the Hohensalzburg fortress — a UNESCO old town.

A tiny lakeside village in the Salzkammergut, framed by steep peaks and home to some of the world's oldest salt mines.

A vibrant alpine city ringed by the Nordkette range, gateway to the Tyrolean Alps and their hiking and ski trails.

Austria's highest mountain at around 3,798m, reached via a famous panoramic high alpine road through Hohe Tauern National Park.

A UNESCO-listed stretch of the Danube lined with vineyards, apricot orchards and hilltop abbeys such as Melk.
Summer (roughly June to September) is ideal for hiking and the lakes, while December to March is the main ski season. Spring and autumn are quieter, with mild weather.
This expedition involves a mix of walking and active days alongside cultural highlights. Please check the individual expedition page for the difficulty rating and full day-by-day detail.
