When is the best time to do this West Sumatra expedition?

The dry season from April to September offers the most reliable trekking conditions on Mount Kerinci and the clearest summit views. This expedition departs in August, within that window. Rain is still possible at any time in a tropical rainforest, so waterproof layers are part of the recommended kit.

Do I need a visa to visit Indonesia for this trip?

It depends on your nationality. Many travellers can enter Indonesia on a visa on arrival or electronic visa on arrival (e-VOA), but requirements change, so check the latest rules for your passport before booking. A visa, if required, is not included in the expedition price.

What is the Mentawai stay like, and is it responsible tourism?

On Siberut Island you stay in a traditional Mentawai Uma, a communal longhouse, with local guides and community members. Conditions are basic and remote, and the experience is built around respectful, community-based engagement rather than performance.

What fitness level do I need?

You should be comfortable with multiple consecutive days of activity, long trekking days in humid conditions, a steep ascent and descent at altitude, and basic accommodation in isolated areas.
