From Atlantic beaches and Amazon rainforest to colonial cities and vast wetlands, Brazil is a continent-sized country of staggering variety. Here is what to expect on the ground.
Brazil is mostly tropical and warm year-round, with seasons reversed from the northern hemisphere — summer runs roughly December to March. The Amazon is hot and humid, the south is more temperate, and rainfall varies widely by region.

From Rio's peaks to rainforest, wetlands and dunes, these are the landscapes our Brazil expedition is built around.

Christ the Redeemer, the cable car up Sugarloaf and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, wrapped in green peaks and bay.

One of the world's largest waterfall systems, a thundering curtain of cascades on the border with Argentina — a UNESCO site.

Gateway to the rainforest, where the dark Rio Negro meets the sandy Solimões at the Meeting of the Waters.

The heart of Afro-Brazilian culture, with the colourful colonial Pelourinho district and the music and cuisine of Bahia.

The world's largest tropical wetland, one of the best places on Earth to spot wildlife, from caimans to elusive jaguars.

A surreal expanse of white sand dunes cradling rain-fed turquoise lagoons along the northeastern coast.
The best time depends on the region. For Rio and the coast, the cooler, drier months of roughly April to October are popular, while the Pantanal's dry season (around July to October) is best for wildlife.
This expedition involves a mix of walking and active days alongside cultural highlights. Please check the individual expedition page for the difficulty rating and full day-by-day detail.
Brazil's visa rules have changed in recent years for some nationalities (for example US, Canadian and Australian passport holders) and may change again. Please confirm the current requirements with an official Brazilian government source before you travel.
We run small-group expeditions to keep things personal. See the expedition page for the exact group size and departure dates.
The expedition page lists exactly what's included and excluded — typically accommodation, guiding and listed activities. International flights are usually arranged separately.
