Rain is still possible at any time in a tropical rainforest, so waterproof layers are part of the recommended kit.

Do I need a visa to visit Indonesia for this trip?

On Siberut Island you stay in a traditional Mentawai Uma, a communal longhouse, with local guides and community members. Conditions are basic and remote, and the experience is built around respectful, community-based engagement rather than performance.

What fitness level do I need?

You should be comfortable with multiple consecutive days of activity, long trekking days in humid conditions, a steep ascent and descent at altitude, and basic accommodation in isolated areas. The expedition suits travellers who are physically active and prepared for changing terrain across jungle, mountain, and coast. Minimum age is 15.

What is included and what is not?

Included: domestic flights (Jakarta-Padang-Jakarta), all ground transport and transfers, mountain guides and expedition crew, national park permits, tents and camping logistics for the summit night, accommodation throughout, most meals, the Mentawai experience with local guides, and all listed activities. Not included: international flights, travel insurance (mandatory), visa if required, personal trekking gear (sleeping bag, pad, headlamp), personal expenses, and selected meals.

How large is the group?

This is a small-group expedition with a maximum of 10 travellers, which keeps the experience personal on the mountain and inside the Mentawai community.
